Cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom in Tokyo, attracting many tourists to various viewing spots. I also recently visited Tokyo during this period and went to several famous cherry blossom spots. Here, I will introduce some of the top spots to see cherry blossoms in Tokyo.

Naka-Meguro River

Location : 3 Chome-4-1 Kamimeguro, Meguro City, Tokyo 153-0051, Japan

Naka-Meguro River

Cherry blossom trees are densely planted on both sides of the Meguro River, creating a tunnel of pink blossoms that is truly spectacular. If you are using public transportation, a popular starting point is Naka-Meguro Station, from which you can head towards the Starbucks Roastery Cafe. The view of the cherry blossoms from the terrace of the Starbucks Roastery Cafe is said to be beautiful. However, the cafe often has long waiting lines, even on weekdays, so keep that in mind.

During cherry blossom season, various restaurants and stores sell their foods and goods along both sides of the Naka-Meguro River. Additionally, many famous restaurants and cafes are located nearby, making it worth stopping by.

Shinjuku Gyoen

Location : 11 Naitomachi, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0014, Japan

Shinjuku Gyoen

This large park is located near Shinjuku, one of the must-see areas when traveling to Tokyo. Despite being in a bustling downtown area, the park boasts a large scale and can be entered for a fee of 500 yen.

Shinjuku Gyoen

Inside the park, many people lay out mats and enjoy picnics under the beautiful cherry blossoms. Bringing a packed lunch and enjoying a picnic under the trees is a great way to spend the day. The park is so vast that it would take more than an hour to explore it all, and it’s a beautiful park that’s worth spending a whole day at.

However, there are often long lines to enter, even on weekdays, so expect even larger crowds on weekends and plan your schedule accordingly.

Ueno Park

Location : Uenokoen, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0007, Japan

Ueno Park

This is another popular cherry blossom viewing spot in Tokyo, featuring long rows of cherry blossom trees on both sides of the road. Just like Shinjuku Gyoen, there are also people enjoying picnics on mats.

If you walk along the cherry blossom road, you’ll see a shrine on the pond to the right. This is Shinobazu no lke. If you turn around and walk there, you’ll find many stalls selling delicious food like takoyaki and yakisoba.

Shinobazu no lke

If you walk a little further past the shrine, you’ll see a path of cherry blossom trees stretching around the pond. This is a beautiful spot to enjoy the spring scenery, and you may even see people riding a duck boat on the pond.

Chidorigafuchi Moat

Location : 1 Kitanomarukoen, Chiyoda City, Tokyo 102-0091, Japan

Chidorigafuchi Moat

The moat on the northwest side of the Imperial Palace in Japan is called the Chidorigafuchi Moat.

Chidorigafuchi Moat is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot. The appearance of cherry blossoms in full bloom around the wide moat is truly spectacular. In particular, you can rent a duck boat and enjoy the beautiful scenery while riding it. Unfortunately, it was raining when I visited, so I couldn’t see the duck boats in action.

These are some of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo. As Japan is famous for cherry blossoms, you can see beautiful blossoms everywhere you go during this season. However, be prepared for large crowds, especially on weekends.

Since the cherry blossoms are already in full bloom, they will soon fall. If you are planning a trip to Tokyo, I recommend visiting soon to enjoy the beauty of cherry blossoms in Tokyo.
