The hotel I’m going to introduce to you today is the New Siam Hotel. Which I booked while looking for a good value hotel along Khao San Road. The area around Khaosan Road is an older area, and it was harder to find a clean and affordable hotel than I expected. So I had a little trouble choosing a place to stay, compared to Asoke Station, where there are many cheap and good hotels. However, I wanted to feel the unique atmosphere of Khaosan Road. And it was surprisingly a good location for sightseeing around the area. So I definitely wanted to stay on Khaosan Road.

1. New Siam Riverside Hotel Location

The New Siam Riverside Hotel is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, not in the center of Khaosan Road. So it takes about 10 minutes to get to the center of Khaosan Road. However, being on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, it’s easy to get to other areas such as Icon Siam by boat. And there are famous noodle shops such as “Nai Soi” and “Kundang Kua Yee Chop Yuan” within walking distance of the hotel.

It’s also quiet in the evenings, unlike the area around Khao San Road, which can get very noisy in the evenings.

And since the hotel is on the riverfront, you can see the Chao Phraya River from the hotel pool or breakfast room, or even from your room if you book a river view room.

2. Check-in counter

When you enter the lobby of the hotel, you have to go a little further inside to check in. There are chairs and other things set up for guests to relax.

Once inside the hotel, there was a check-in counter on the right and a restaurant with a breakfast buffet on the left.

3. New Siam Riverside Hotel Rooms

I liked the size of the rooms at the New Siam Riverside Hotel because they were spacious, but the hotel itself had an old feel to it. The bedding and furniture showed its age.

The biggest disappointment was the smell in the room – the air conditioner had a strong odor, which was understandable. Especially since I’ve experienced poorly maintained air conditioners in many budget hotels.

I was also assigned a connecting room, allowing me to hear some noise from the adjacent room.

When I first got into the hotel, I was confused because I couldn’t find the thermostat. And room temperature felt like a blanket to me. Then I finally realized that the black object on the bedside table was the thermostat. And I was able to adjust the temperature. The thermostat defaulted to about 27 degrees, which was hot, and I think I was able to turn it down to 24 degrees. The downside of the thermostat was that I had to pull out the keycard every time I left and came back in, so whenever the power went out, it reset the temperature, so I had to change the temperature every time I came in, which was inconvenient.

As for the room view, I booked the cheapest room, so it was a front building view. If you book a river view, you will have a view of the Chao Phraya River.

4. Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast restaurant, located on the first floor, serves breakfast with the advantage of overlooking the Chao Phraya River. Essentially, it offers outdoor dining, but indoor seating is available in case of rain.

The food selection was good, with basic breads, eggs, drinks, fruits, and vegetables. I personally didn’t feel like there was much to eat at the buffet, so I don’t think it’s worth making a reservation.

However, you can dine right next to the river, so it’s worth it for the ambiance. I booked both breakfasts for my two-night stay, but skipped one meal and had the other delivered to my lineman.

One other aspect I disliked about the restaurant was the insufficient separation between the smoking and eating areas. Although there was some division, they were close enough that sitting too nearby resulted in smelling the cigarettes. If you’re having breakfast, I’d recommend keeping an eye out and finding a table further away.

5. Pool

The pool was also located right next to the breakfast room, on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

6. Book a hotel / Room rates

I booked the New Siam Riverside Hotel for about $60 per night on weekdays, including breakfast. The price may vary depending on the date, so please check the link below.

So far, I’ve introduced New Siam Riverside Hotel as the best value for money hotel along Khao San Road. While I personally loved the location of the hotel, whether it was visiting Icon Siam or Wat Pho temple, or trying out the noodle restaurants around the area, I was disappointed with the facilities. I guess that’s to be expected considering the price.
