I would like to introduce ‘Jeokdang’ cafe, one of the popular korean dessert Cafe in Myeongdong, seoul among the locals.
It is a Korean dessert cafe that mainly sells desserts made with red bean, which may not be familiar to those from abroad, and offers unique desserts that can only be tasted in Korea.
Location
Korean dessert Cafe Jeokdang is very close to Euljiro Entrance Station. It is located on the 1st floor of the Doosan Tower Euljiro, across from Lotte Department Store in Myeongdong.
The cafe is located at the back door of Doosan Tower Euljiro. If you entered the building through the main entrance, you can find the cafe by going to the back through the hallway with elevators.
Once you enter the cafe, you can see a well-decorated space. They used rocks for interior design on the counter where you order your menu, and used warm-toned wood on one side. The harmony of these two designs is perfect, and it seems like you can take beautiful pictures anywhere.
Jeokdang Cafe sells not only regular Americano coffee but also drinks made with red bean. They also offer Korean desserts made with red bean or rice cake.
I ordered the Red Bean Latte, Baekseolgi Ang Butter, and Monaka with ice cream.
Red Bean Latte
When I took the first sip of the Red Bean Latte, I was surprised that it was sweeter and thicker than I expected. At first, I thought it was too sweet. So I waited for the ice to melt a little to dilute the drink. When the ice melted, the sweetness of the drink became just right. They probably made the drink with the ice melting in mind.
The drink had a sweet milk flavor with a hint of red bean. Actually, Korea has a famous red bean ice cream that has been sold for a long time, and the taste is similar to that.
Baekseolgi Ang Butter
Ang Butter bread has been popular in Korea for a long time. It is a menu where you put butter and red bean paste in between bread. Jeokdang Cafe replaced the bread with Baekseolgi, one of the traditional Korean rice cakes, to make the dessert.
They guided me to hold it with both hands and eat it. When you grab the Baekseolgi part, you can feel that the rice cake is warm.
The harmony of the three ingredients, butter, red bean, and rice cake, tasted good, and the butter and red bean inside were slightly cold.
Overall, since the desserts are sweet, it would be better to have a neat Americano coffee with it, rather than Red Bean Latte.
Monaka
Monaka is a dessert with a thin baked cookie outside and a filling inside, such as red bean. Jeokdang Cafe provides a menu with ice cream and red bean filling.
