Are you looking for must-see places in Seoul?
Bukchon Hanok Village(북촌 한옥 마을) is a must-visit if you are traveling to Seoul. It is a place where you can see the traditional appearance of Korea as it maintains the appearance of Hanok, an old Korean house. Unlike the appearance of large palaces such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, you can see the appearance of a small but charming and beautiful traditional house. It is popular because you can capture the beautiful hanok made of tiled roofs called giwa(기와) and the developed Seoul surrounded by numerous buildings. It is also a popular spot where many tourists come and take pictures wearing hanbok.
What is Hanok?
There are various types of hanok in the form of traditional Korean houses. Hanoks in Bukchon are hanoks with tiled roofs called Giwa(기와), and are also called Giwajib(roofs called houses). Most of the structures are urban hanok structures in the shape of square. Because of this, unlike traditional hanok, where the yard is exposed from the outside, the inside of the house is not visible at all because it is blocked by high gates and rooms when viewed from the street.
