After enjoying Polo Fried Chicken, I went to Lumpini Park right next door to settle my bloated stomach. By the way, Polo Fried Chicken and Lumpini Park are just across the overpass, making it a great location to both enjoy the food and take a walk. Therefore, it is recommended to visit both places together if possible.
Lumpini Park
I moved from Polo Fried Chicken to Lumpini Park. When you walk down the street from the restaurant, you will see an overpass immediately. After crossing the overpass in the picture, you will see the entrance to Lumpini Park.
I visited Lumpini Park in March, after the cool dry season had ended and the weather was getting hotter. Since I visited the park around 1:00 pm, the sun was hot and the weather was very warm. As a result, there were not as many people in the park as I had expected. Rather, it seems that many people visit in the evening after the sun goes down, so it would be nice to consider visiting in the evening if the weather is too hot.
Lumpini Park boasts an impressive scale that makes it hard to believe it is located in the busy city of Bangkok. When you enter the park, you will feel as if you have escaped from the city center filled with buildings and entered a real forest. Additionally, the reflection of the buildings through the trees creates a great atmosphere, and tourists can be seen taking pictures here for this reason.
Giant lizard
Lumpini Park is known for its large population of lizards, so I was excited to encounter them during my visit. However, despite searching the roads and ponds, I couldn’t spot any lizards, possibly due to being in the wrong area.
Eventually, I gave up and exited the park through the south side. To my surprise, I found a giant lizard swimming in a creek-like area around the park. If you’re looking to spot a giant lizard in Lumpini Park, try searching from the south exit.
The Commons Chaladeng
The Commons Saladaeng is a popular spot for young people in Bangkok. I discovered it while searching for travel destinations in Bangkok with a nice interior and a variety of food. To be honest, I didn’t even realize it was close to Lumpini Park, but stumbled upon it while searching for a nearby massage shop (I didn’t find one I liked, so I went to a place near Asok Station instead).
The Commons Saladaeng has a great interior and plenty of restaurants with delicious-looking food, so it’s no surprise that it’s become popular. Even though I visited during the day on a weekday, there were still quite a few people spending time there. It’s likely even more crowded in the evening. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try any of the food since I had already eaten lunch.
Roots Coffee (Roots at Saladaeng)
After walking quite a bit from Lumpini Park, I became thirsty and decided to take a break at a cafe. I found Roots Coffee on the first floor of The Commons Chaladeng. Although there were delicious-looking desserts in front of me, I only ordered an Americano. I opted for a large, which cost 120 baht, so it wasn’t cheap.
I had a choice of two types of coffee beans, but I went with the house blend. I remember it having a moderate acidity.
Roots Cafe doesn’t appear to be an independent space; it occupies a common area of The Commons Chaladeng. I sat there to cool off and take a break.
Bolt motorcycle taxi
After taking a short break and drinking coffee, I used Bolt to call a motorbike taxi and went to Asok Station. This was my first time taking a motorcycle taxi, and I initially felt that it was dangerous and unsafe. However, during my travels in Bangkok, I often had trouble getting a regular taxi and found that nothing beat the price and convenience of a motorcycle taxi. So, I ended up using it frequently : )
