If you’re planning a trip to Switzerland, one of the must-try dishes is undoubtedly Swiss fondue. During our search for the perfect spot to enjoy fondue in Grindelwald, we discovered Bebbis Restaurant. Known for its delicious food and spectacular views of the Eiger North Face, Bebbis offers an unforgettable dining experience.

Location (Google Map)
Bebbis Restaurant is conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from Grindelwald Station, following the main street. It’s situated among several restaurants in Grindelwald, making it easily accessible. The Bebbis Restaurant is also near the gondola station for ascending to First, so you can conveniently plan your itinerary around a meal at Bebbis.

Opening Hours
Bebbis Restaurant operates daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, without any breaks or closed days. This makes it easy to visit whenever you’re in Grindelwald, without worrying about scheduling conflicts.
Restaurant Interior

The restaurant features both outdoor and indoor seating areas. Since it was a bit chilly outside during our visit, we chose to dine inside. The interior boasts warm wooden decor, creating a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. All the window seats have floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing diners to fully appreciate the stunning views of the Eiger North Face.

Eiger North Face View

One of the highlights of Bebbis Restaurant is the ability to dine while gazing at the majestic Eiger North Face. We visited just after lunchtime, and although the sunlight was strong, we intentionally chose a spot with a perfect view of the mountain. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a meal with such an awe-inspiring backdrop.
Bebbis offers a diverse menu that includes various types of Swiss fondues—ranging from classic cheese fondue to oil fondue and even chocolate fondue. In addition to fondue, they serve pizzas, salads, hamburgers, and desserts like apple cake and chocolate cake. Beverage options are plentiful, featuring wines, beers, and coffee.
As is common in Switzerland, the prices are on the higher side. However, the quality of the food and the exceptional views make it a worthwhile experience.
Dining Experience at Bebbis
We ordered three dishes during our visit:
Salad

Considering we were traveling with my mother, who prefers to have vegetables with her meals, we ordered the largest size of the chicken salad. It arrived in an enormous bowl, and the fresh vegetables were a perfect complement to the richer dishes. Despite the large portion, we managed to finish it all. It was a bit pricey but definitely a good choice.
Schnitzel
The schnitzel was sizable and reminiscent of a pork cutlet. While the taste wasn’t significantly different from similar dishes, it lacked sauce, which was slightly disappointing.

However, the various sauces that came with the oil fondue allowed us to enhance the flavor. The schnitzel was served with a generous portion of french fries, making it quite filling.
Oil Fondue
Now for the unexpected part of our meal—the oil fondue. We initially intended to order the traditional Swiss cheese fondue, but upon seeing the oil fondue on the menu, we thought it might be meat dipped in cheese due to the term “fondue”. Expecting cheese, we ordered it, but when it arrived, we were surprised to find raw cuts of beef, pork, and chicken meant to be cooked in hot oil and dipped in sauces—without any cheese involved.

The raw meat had a slight odor, so we made sure to cook it thoroughly, which unfortunately made the meat a bit tough. While the meat was not as enjoyable as we hoped, it was accompanied by rice, french fries, and a variety of sauces that helped improve the overall taste. We also used the sauces with the schnitzel, which enhanced that dish as well.

In hindsight, we wouldn’t recommend the oil fondue, especially if you’re expecting cheese. If you’re visiting Switzerland, we highly recommend sticking with the classic cheese fondue for an authentic experience.
A Note on Cheese Fondue
During our stay, we also tried making cheese fondue at our Airbnb using cheese purchased from a local supermarket. However, we found the taste wasn’t to our liking due to the strong alcohol flavor and pungent aroma. Later, we tried cheese fondue at another restaurant and found it much more enjoyable. This experience made us realize that restaurants like Bebbis likely have superior cheese fondue compared to what we attempted to make ourselves.
The Bill

The total cost for our meal came to 92.8 CHF. While it was on the expensive side, considering the portions and the incredible view, we felt it was a reasonable price for the experience.
Conclusion
Bebbis Restaurant in Grindelwald offers a unique opportunity to enjoy delicious Swiss cuisine with an unparalleled view of the Eiger North Face. Although our experience with the oil fondue was not what we expected, the overall dining experience was satisfying. The pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and breathtaking scenery made it a memorable part of our trip.
If you plan to visit Bebbis, we highly recommend ordering the cheese fondue to fully immerse yourself in Swiss culinary tradition. Whether you’re wrapping up a day of sightseeing or starting an adventure to First, Bebbis Restaurant is a delightful place to savor Swiss flavors while taking in one of the most iconic mountain views in the Alps.
